Bryce Pickford inks NHL deal with Canadiens after WHL dominance

Bryce Pickford has signed a three-year, entry-level deal with the Montreal Canadiens after a standout season in the WHL. The 19-year-old forward was drafted in the third round of the 2025 NHL Draft and has twice lifted the Ed Chynoweth Cup as a champion.

Pickford dominated this season with the Medicine Hat Tigers, scoring 25 goals in just 31 games—the highest tally in the league. His 44 points place him fourth overall in the WHL, only three shy of his career-best 47. As team captain, he led the Tigers to their second championship in three years, adding to his 2022-23 title with the Seattle Thunderbirds.

The Canadiens selected Pickford 81st overall in June, impressed by his scoring touch and leadership. Though he has no major international experience, his consistency in junior hockey earned him the NHL contract. The deal marks his first professional agreement after four seasons in the WHL.

Pickford will now join Montreal’s development system with a three-year contract in place. His scoring ability and championship experience make him a strong prospect for the Canadiens. The club will look to build on his junior success as he transitions to professional hockey.
