Reality Show about Bavarian Tradition - BR's 'Maypole Hunters': Influencers Join Bavaria's Wild Maypole Stealing Fest
Bavarian broadcaster BR is set to air an exciting new reality show, 'Maypole Hunters', focused on the traditional Bavarian festival of Maypole stealing. The show, consisting of five episodes, will be available in the ARD Media Library starting in April 2026. Three influencers, Dalia Mya, Paola Maria, and Mert Kasic, will share their experiences on social media platforms, while three teams from Upper Bavarian communities compete against each other.
The participating communities are Schäftlarn, Grünwald, and Kirchseeon. Each team is supported by influencers Tschuggi, Zeo, and Saint Skye. The teams battled it out in classic village festival challenges such as stacking drink crates, keg tossing, and tractor tire races to earn time windows to steal opponents' Maypoles. Filming took place in late October northeast of Munich, in the towns of Unterföhring, Feldmoching, Hochbrück, and Oberschleißheim. The production team faced challenges with extensive night shoots, and contestants contributed footage using various devices.
The new reality show 'Maypole Hunters' promises an entertaining blend of tradition and competition. With influencers sharing their experiences on YouTube, Instagram, and TikTok, viewers can expect a modern take on an old Bavarian custom. The show's five episodes will be available in the ARD Media Library starting in April 2026, with BR set to air the series on television.
