Brothers Tate accused of sexual assault and human trafficking in the U.K.
United Kingdom authorities have confirmed that YouTube influencers Andrew and Tristan Tate have been formally charged with rape, rape-related offenses, human trafficking, and causing actual bodily harm. The charges, which originated in 2012-2015 as per a Bedfordshire Police warrant, were authorized last year but have only now been publicly disclosed by the Crown Prosecution Service.
British media reported on arrest warrants issued against the Tate brothers, dual U.S.-British citizens, in 2016. However, it was the first time the prosecution service announced that they faced criminal charges in the United Kingdom.
Andrew Tate, 38, allegedly committed sexual and physical assaults against three women, in addition to human trafficking and controlling prostitution for financial gain. Tristan Tate, 36, stands accused of raping one woman, as well as human trafficking and causing actual bodily harm.
The brothers were arrested in Romania towards the end of 2022 and were indicted last year on charges that they acted as part of an organized crime ring that exploited women, luring them to Romania and subjecting them to sexual abuse. Andrew Tate was also charged with rape.
British prosecutors stated that a Romanian court order has been issued for the extradition of the two brothers once their court case is concluded in Romania. As of now, their whereabouts are unclear. They were spotted a week ago outside a police station in Voluntari, Romania, where they are required to report regularly for the ongoing proceedings against them.
