Bertreattinis Unite for Italian Open Doubles Extravaganza

Get ready, tennis fans! The Berrettini brothers, Jacopo and Matteo, are teaming up for the doubles tournament at the Italian Open. Jacopo, you heard it right, will be making a wildcard appearance in the main draw of doubles to join forces with his bro for the home-turf tournament, organizers said.

These brothers' doubles debut took place at the Future F24 in Piombino back in 2015. They didn't take things soaring right from the get-go; instead, they lost in the first round. But they learned from their mistakes and worked their way up to their first victory at the Challenger in Cortina in 2017.

Their highest achievement was at the tournament where they first stepped onto the ATP circuit, Cagliari in 2021, where they reached the semifinals before Simone Bolelli and Andreas Molteni put a stop to their dream run. They made attempts in two more ATP tournaments, none of which brought them significant results - Florence in 2022 and Acapulco in 2023. But Rome, they say, is where it all begins at a Masters 1000 event.

The Italian Open roars into action on April 29, first with the qualifiers, and rounds off on May 18 with the men’s final. The ladies get their turn to shine a day before that, on May 17. This event marks the 82nd edition of the Rome tournament.

Now, let's talk some numbers and facts. The Berrettinis have played together at a few ATP doubles' tournaments, including the Italian Open, but it's their singles performances that have been stealing the spotlight. Matteo's achievements in singles are the stuff legends are made of, with his highest singles ranking touching world No. 8. Jacopo, the younger sibling, mainly competes in singles and challengers, but doubles is usually a fun side-gig for him. Together, though, their doubles partnership is still more of an emerging duo than a well-oiled machine with plenty of titles under their belt.

In Masters 1000 events, the Berreattinis haven't set the stage on fire yet. They've tried their luck at a few instances but haven't ventured beyond the initial rounds. There's always a first time for everything, though, right? So, here's wishing Jacopo and Matteo the best of luck as they step into the arena together!

The Berrettini brothers, Matteo and Jacopo, will be competing in the doubles tournament at the Italian Open starting April 29, with Jacopo making a wildcard appearance in the main draw. Their doubles partnership, although still emerging, has shown growth since their first match in 2015. In the 2023 Italian Open, they aim to make a significant impact, aspiring to excel beyond their initial appearances in Masters 1000 events. This year's Italian Open marks the 82nd edition of the Rome tournament, and sports enthusiasts eagerly anticipate Matteo's incredible singles performances and the promising potential of the Berrettini doubles team.

Brothers, who last played together at the Acapulco tournament in 2023, to reunite in competition at a Masters 1000 event in Rome for the first time since then.
