Brothers clash for gold in St. Petersburg's dramatic fencing finale

The 49th International Fencing Tournament Rapier of St. Petersburg wrapped up with a dramatic finish in the men's individual foil event. Anton Borodachev from Samara claimed gold after facing his own brother in the final. The competition drew over 120 elite fencers from five countries, including Russia, Belarus, and Israel. Anton Borodachev secured the top spot by defeating Kirill Borodachev in an all-Russian final. The victory marked a standout moment in the tournament, held in St. Petersburg. Danil Kerik, representing Nizhny Novgorod, earned bronze in the same event.

In the team foil competition, the quartet of Danil Kerik, Anton Borodachev, Kirill Borodachev, and Yegor Bannikov took gold. Alexander Kerik, part of a different team, contributed to a silver-medal finish. The tournament featured fencers from Russia, Belarus, the UAE, New Zealand, and Israel. Organisers did not disclose the total number of nations from previous editions.

Anton Borodachev's win over his brother highlighted the event's competitive spirit. The gold in both individual and team foil events reinforced Russia's dominance in the sport. The Rapier of St. Petersburg remains a key fixture for elite fencers worldwide.
