Brother of legendary Commanders player Sean Taylor expresses emotion following minicamp audition
Hittin' the Field:
Gabe Taylor – Pursuing Sean Taylor's Legacy with the Commanders
Gabe Taylor, the late Sean Taylor's kid brother, is shining bright like a diamond during the Washington Commanders' rookie minicamp. And it ain't just the fans who are diggin' the story – the Taylor family is feelin' every second of it.
Gabe's all about embracin' the opportunity to carry on his brother's legacy, wearin' the same maroon jersey that Sean once rocked with pride. "Washington Commanders, baby! That's been my life," he said, straight up. "Hope I can make it happen again – show 'em I can contribute any way I can."
The young 'un might only be 23, but he's already well-versed in the hallowed history of the Commanders, even if it used to be the Redskins back in the day. Sean, with his stunning athleticism and ball-hawkin' skills, was twice named to the Pro Bowl and once an All-Pro in just four years with the team.
Tragically, Sean's life was cut short in a 2007 home invasion, leavin' Gabe just six years old in the sad shadows of his older brother's absence. Even though they didn't share a whole lot of memories, Gabe's been runnin' the same playbook as his idol every step of the way.
Gabe's Got Talent and Heart
Though he went undrafted, Gabe ain't sweatin' it – he inked a deal with the Commanders right after the draft. With the team needin' some help in the secondary, the feel-good story's lookin' promising.
Over five years at Rice University, Gabe lined up an impressive 231 tackles, forced six fumbles, and snagged ten interceptions. He earned a reputation as a relentless playmaker with a gritty attitude and a strong nose for the ball.
If Gabe manages to make the roster, he's a shoo-in to wear the retired No. 21, in honor of his brother. For now, he's rockin' No. 26 in minicamps, the same number both siblings sported in college football.
