Brother of John Terry Ejected Following Altercation With EFL Striker on Touchline
Lose a Coach, Gain Momentum:
In an unexpected turn of events, Leyton Orient's assistant coach Paul Terry found himself sent off during their thrilling League One match against Huddersfield Town. This happened during their 3-1 win on Saturday, as they aimed to secure a spot in the play-offs.
Paul, the older brother of the legendary Chelsea player John Terry, joined the east London side in 2022. However, his presence in the dugout was short-lived during the closing moments of the first half, following a minor tussle by the Orient's dugout. Referee Dean Whitestone didn't hesitate to show Terry a red card.
Richie Wellens usually takes the helm as head coach, but his suspension forced him to watch the match from the director's box. Nevertheless, Orient managed to maintain their winning streak, having won all of their last five League One matches before this encounter.
Dan Agyei gave Orient an early lead with a goal just two minutes into the game, followed by an own-goal from Jacob Chapman. Huddersfield's Joe Taylor briefly pulled one back before the half, but Agyei netted again at the start of the second half, sealing the victory for Orient. Azeem Abdulai added a fourth goal to further secure their win.
Terry made his way off the pitch with minimal fuss, and Orient will now face a challenging semi-final against third-placed Stockport County, aiming to keep their play-off dream alive.
Although Orient has faced numerous hurdles this season, their persistent efforts have seen them rise from the National League as recently as 2019, and into the third tier of English football. Their journey continues in the League One play-offs, along with Wycombe Wanderers and Charlton Athletic, who will face off in the other semi-final.
Birmingham City already secured the title last month, setting a record by winning an impressive 108 points in a single season. Their 2-1 draw against Cambridge United on Saturday has taken them to 111 points, leading second-place Wrexham by a substantial 19 points.
