Brossart Girls Advance to All "A" Classic State Tournament after Penalty Kick Shootout Victory in Prep Sports

Simon Kenton Senior Volleyball Star Jenna Kitchens Breaks Team Record and Heads to Charleston Southern

In the world of high school volleyball, Jenna Kitchens of Simon Kenton High School has been making waves. Last year, she posted an impressive 3.67 kills average with 385 kills in 105 sets, leading her team to the 8th Region runner-up position. This season, her performance has been even more outstanding, with a 4.75 kills average, amassing 114 kills in just 24 sets going into Monday's match at Williamstown.

Kitchens's outstanding career has seen her break the team record for career kills, with a total of 1,165 over five varsity seasons. This impressive feat surpasses the previous record of 1,151 set by Keira Hans. In the last four matches, Kitchens has recorded an impressive 39 kills in seven sets, further cementing her place in Simon Kenton's volleyball history.

Apart from her school achievements, Kitchens also plays club volleyball for NKYVC. Her talents have not gone unnoticed, as she has committed to Charleston Southern University, a member of the Big South Conference competing on the NCAA Division I level.

Meanwhile, in the soccer arena, the All "A" Classic state tournament is heating up. Brossart, the only local team in the girls state tournament, qualified after a thrilling penalty kick shootout victory against Beechwood. The match ended 2-2 after two 40-minute halves, with senior goalkeeper Maddie Broering making the necessary stops for Brossart's victory.

The hero of the day was freshman Macy Smith, who scored the winning goal in the seventh penalty kick of the tiebreaker shootout. Brossart's two goals in the match were scored by freshman Rylee Fuller and sophomore Kiley Smith.

On the boys' side, Brossart also qualified for the All "A" Classic state tournament after defeating St. Henry.

In other news, state champion distance runners Paul Van Laningham of Cooper and Lily Parke of Beechwood have accepted scholarship offers from NCAA Division I programs, although these achievements are not directly related to the soccer matches.

Finally, Walton-Verona also qualified for the All "A" Classic girls state tournament after defeating Louisville Brown. The first-round matches for the All "A" Classic girls state tournament will be played at Louisville Collegiate High School.
