Decision on Gastronomy Operator for Brocken Made - Brocken’s Legendary Innkeeper Steps Down After Years of Staff Shortages

The Brocken, Germany’s highest peak in the Harz Mountains, will soon see a change in leadership. Daniel Steinhoff, the longtime innkeeper, is stepping down at the end of the year after years of chronic staff shortages. The local government has now approved a new concession for the mountain’s hotel and catering news, marking the start of a fresh chapter for the site.

Steinhoff and his son have been working gruelling 14-hour shifts to keep the Brocken’s hospitality operations running. Despite their efforts, persistent staffing issues have made the workload unsustainable. In response, the Harz District Council launched a Europe-wide tender to find a new operator for the hotel and catering news.

The transition will bring an end to Steinhoff’s long tenure as innkeeper. The new operator, set to take over in late 2024, will introduce changes aimed at revitalising the Brocken’s hospitality news. Further updates on the project’s next steps will follow the official announcement later this week.
