Broadway Actors' Union and League Agree to Continue Talks Amid Strike Threat

Actors' Equity and the Broadway League have agreed to continue negotiations on October 8, following demands from Equity for increased healthcare contributions, paid time off, and safe staffing. Over 1,000 actors have shown support for Equity's stance, with prominent figures such as Darren Criss, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, and Alec Baldwin signing a letter backing the union. If talks break down, Equity's board has authorised a strike, with mediation set for next week.

Actors' Equity is seeking a producer contribution increase of approximately 0.21% of a show's weekly grosses for healthcare. This would amount to around $4 million annually. The union's demands also include improved paid time off and safe staffing levels. Despite the ongoing negotiations, the names of producers and theater owners involved remain unclear.

Over 1,000 actors have lent their support to Equity's cause, with notable actors penning a letter in solidarity. The letter, signed by figures such as Darren Criss, LaTanya Richardson Jackson, and Alec Baldwin, underscores the actors' commitment to fair working conditions.

Both sides have agreed to resume negotiations on October 8, with the possibility of a strike looming if an agreement cannot be reached. The Broadway community awaits the outcome of these crucial talks, which could significantly impact the future of Broadway theater.
