Broadcasting networks are announcing their farewells
Chillin' Out (Till) Summer Time: A Rundown of Germany's Favorite TV Shows Taking a Break
Summer's here, and it's time to catch up on some of your favorite German TV shows before they take a much-needed break. With reruns or new formats filling up the usual slots, here's what you need to know about popular TV formats going on hiatus:
"Tatort" and "Polizeiruf 110" Wrap Up Crime Scenes
Say goodbye to the Dortmund "Tatort" detectives on June 9th. Expect a Swiss case from Zurich on June 15th. The final "Polizeiruf 110" before the summer break airs on June 22nd. Thereafter, ARD will primarily show reruns, much like previous years. It remains uncertain whether the new crime season on Sunday evenings will continue with a "Polizeiruf" or "Tatort," ARD advised spot on news[1].
Daily Soaps Take a Summer Vacation
Spend the last of summer with "Rote Rosen" and "Sturm der Liebe." Both shows will air their final new episodes on June 27th, with a planned return on September 1st. In the meantime, the Tour de France will occupy the time slot, alongside various film productions on ARD. "In aller Freundschaft - Die jungen Ärzte" will go into summer break one day earlier, with the eleventh season finishing on June 26th. The summer break concludes on August 28th[1].
Politics Taking a Breath of Fresh Air
Louis Klamroth's political talk show "Hart aber fair" has been in summer break since May 12th. Sandra Maischberger's talk show, which airs on three evenings a week, has picked up the slack. Maischberger's summer break begins on July 15th. Both "Markus Lanz" and "maybrit illner," however, still air until July 24th, although there may be a few scheduling gaps due to the UEFA Women's Euro live broadcasts[1].
Satire Holds a Beach Party (Literally!)
The "heute-show" will commence its summer break on June 6th, but don't fret! ZDF has planned a "heute-show special" titled "Germany Has Really Bad Bridges" for June 13th, hosted by Fabian Köster and Lutz van der Horst. Another special follow-up, "The Coalition Agreement Check - What Does the Grand Coalition Want and How Many?", will air on June 20th, with the two moderators.
Comedian Martina Hill will present "heute SHOWNAL - Larissa's Summer!" on June 27th. No show will air on July 4th, but Valerie Niehaus will host another special on July 11th at the usual time, titled "heute-show extra - The Incredible Story of Elon Musk."
Jan Böhmermann's show "ZDF Magazin Royale" will take a longer break starting from June 20, with comedian Till Reiners taking over the Friday night slot at 11 PM, airing his late-night show "Till Tonight." Initially, eight episodes of the new show are planned for Böhmermann's slot[2].
During the summer break, comedy takes center stage with Martina Hill hosting "heute SHOWNAL - Larissa's Summer!" on June 27th, followed by a special show on July 11th hosted by Valerie Niehaus. Meanwhile, Jan Böhmermann's show "ZDF Magazin Royale" abdicates its throne, with Till Reiners taking over the Friday night slot starting June 20th, showcasing his late-night show "Till Tonight." On the other hand, entertainment enthusiasts can enjoy various special episodes of their favorite shows, such as the "heute-show special" titled "Germany Has Really Bad Bridges" on June 13th.
