Britz Garden: Berlin's Hidden Oasis of Nature, Art and Family Fun

Britz Garden in Berlin-Neukölln has been a green retreat for locals and visitors since 1985. Originally built for the Federal Garden Show, the sprawling 90-hectare park now offers a mix of nature, art, and leisure activities for all ages. Designed by Stuttgart-based landscape architect Wolfgang Miller, the park blends rolling hills, flower groves, and open meadows. At its heart lies a nearly 10-hectare lake, surrounded by gardens and walking paths. The space invites picnics, sports, and relaxation, with a dedicated water playground for children.

The park also features a historic narrow-gauge railway, the Britz Park Railway, which winds through scenic routes. For art lovers, Europe's largest sundial—measuring 99 metres across—stands as a striking centrepiece. Sculptures and architectural works from the 1985 *Kunst im Bauen* programme remain scattered throughout. Four themed gardens add variety: the Rose Garden, the Karl Foerster Perennial Garden, the Geological Garden, and the Witches' Garden. Each season brings colourful displays, including three major flower shows—the Tulpian, the Rhododendron and Azalea Show, and the Dahlia Festival. Visitors can also meet farm animals like cows, sheep, goats, and ducks roaming freely in designated areas. During summer, cafés and restaurants open across the park, offering dining options with views of the greenery. The mix of nature, culture, and family-friendly attractions keeps the park lively year-round.

Britz Garden remains a well-loved destination for outdoor activities, seasonal events, and quiet moments in nature. Its blend of landscapes, art, and wildlife ensures something for everyone, from children exploring the water playground to adults strolling through the themed gardens.
