British woman's mother alleges Thai authorities conceal evidence in daughter's hotel death case

In Bangkok, the death of a British woman and her partner in a hotel room has led to allegations of a cover-up by Thai authorities, with the victim's mother accusing police of neglecting a persistent drug problem and failing to conduct a thorough investigation.

Rebecca Turner, a 36-year-old resident of Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex, perished last year after unknowingly ingesting a deadly mixture of drugs, believing it to be cocaine. The fatal concoction contained painkillers, sleeping pills, morphine, and anxiety medication, an inquest revealed.

The white powder was purchased from a street dealer near a police station, a location notorious for drug-related tourist deaths.

Rebecca's mother, Anita Turner, has openly criticized the Thai police for their handling of the case and the alleged cover-up, having traveled to Thailand three times since her daughter's death.

Speaking outside East Sussex Coroner's Court, she asserted: "The police have been promising me details for six months, and I'm still awaiting them. They try to cover it up, and when I told them that, they accused me of lying."

Anita Turner has also implicated text messages from Rebecca talking about a small amount of cocaine, suggesting she believed she was taking the illegal substance.

Since her daughter's demise, Anita has endeavored to continue the charity work Rebecca had initiated in Thailand. She affectionately described Rebecca as "fun, bubbly, always partying, always laughing, always smiling."

The Assistant Coroner, Laura Bradford, concluded the cause of death as drug toxicity due to a drug-related incident. Bradford confirmed there was no evidence to suggest that Rebecca intended to die and attested to her stable mental health and good mood at the time of her passing.

The coroner's court has reached out to the Royal Thai national police and the Thai embassy for comment on the alleged cover-up.

Without sufficient investigation and action from Thai authorities, the family continues to press for answers and advocate against illicit drug use in Thailand.

The alleged cover-up by Thai authorities in the case of the British woman's death highlights a concerning issue within Thai politics, as the family continues to demand a thorough investigation. The drug-related incident that led to Rebecca Turner's death underscores the need for stricter enforcement in the crime-and-justice sector, particularly in areas notorious for drug-related activities.
