HMS Prince William Leads UK Carrier Strike Group in Indo-Pacific Mission

The HMS Prince William, a 65,000-ton aircraft carrier, has taken centre stage as the UK's flagship, leading the UK Carrier Strike Group in a significant deployment to the Indo-Pacific.

In a historic first, the HMS Prince William has been designated as the UK's flagship. The carrier has been operating in the Mediterranean as part of a global mission, showcasing Britain's naval might and fostering unity with international allies.

One such display of strength and unity took place in the Mediterranean, where the HMS Prince William, along with the UK Carrier Strike Group, participated in a major show of force. The carrier has also passed through the Strait of Gibraltar while leading the UK Carrier Strike Group in the Mediterranean.

The US Marine Corps have been a crucial part of this mission, with their MV-22 Osprey aircraft conducting flights aboard the HMS Prince William's flight deck. More USMC personnel and F-35B jets, identical to those flown by Royal Navy and RAF pilots, are expected to join later in the deployment.

The HMS Prince William has made several notable stops during its deployment. It first visited Wales, taking over as the UK's flagship from HMS Queen Elizabeth. The ship's company were treated to a traditional 'Welcome to Country' ceremony by the native Larrakia people during a visit to Darwin, Australia.

This marks the first time a Royal Navy aircraft carrier has visited Australia in a generation. The HMS Prince William has also made a historic milestone in the UK's Indo-Pacific mission by arriving in Tokyo.

The carrier has been operating off Australia's northern coast for the past couple of weeks, spearheading the UK's naval input into Talisman Sabre 2025, a military exercise involving 35,000 personnel from 19 nations. Talisman Sabre runs until early August and aims to enhance cooperation and relationships between partner nations and demonstrate commitment to the collective security of the Indo-Pacific region and upholding the rules-based international system.

The US Marine Corps soldiers visiting the HMS Prince William belong to the United States. At times, the HMS Prince William has operated in conjunction with the USS George Washington carrier group, further strengthening international cooperation.

The HMS Prince William continues to play a pivotal role in the Indo-Pacific mission, demonstrating the UK's commitment to maintaining a strong and active presence in the region.
