Retirement of Beloved Windsor Grey Horse Tyrone Marks the End of an Era
In a heartfelt announcement made on their official Instagram account, the British Royal Family bid farewell to Tyrone, a distinguished Windsor Grey horse who has served them with unwavering loyalty and grace for around 14-15 years. Known for his calm temperament and striking appearance, Tyrone has been a key figure in many important royal events.
Tyrone's role was particularly significant on ceremonial days, where he was often seen pulling royal carriages in full ceremonial regalia. He played a crucial part in the coronation day procession of 2023, steering and maneuvering the heavy state vehicles with precision. Notably, in 2024, he pulled the carriage for Kate and her children at the Trooping the Colour parade, an occasion that showcased his impeccable skills and dedication.
On coronation day, Tyrone was also part of the horse team that pulled King Charles and Queen Camilla in the golden state coach. His presence at these key moments helped carry forward the tradition and dignity of the British monarchy’s public ceremonies.
At 19 years old and standing 18 hands tall, Tyrone retired following the French President Emmanuel Macron’s state visit in May 2025. The retirement was accompanied by a carrot and a horse head emoji on the Royal Family’s social media, signifying a fond farewell to this loyal servant.
A photo gallery was published showing Tyrone at various royal events, offering a poignant reminder of his service and the impact he had on the public pageantry of the British monarchy. His retirement marks the end of an era for the Windsor Greys at the heart of royal ceremonial life.
Tyrone's retirement is a testament to his dedication and service to the British Royal Family. He will be missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who witnessed his remarkable career.
