Brilliant Success in Dushanbe: Tajikistan Outshines on the Second Day
🚀 Welcome to Tajikistan, where judo meets the breathtaking beauty of this ancient land! With the Honorable Rustam Emomali, Mayor of Dushanbe, in attendance, we kicked off Day 2 of the 2025 Dushanbe Grand Slam. And what a day it was!
The home team came out swinging, claiming two epic gold medals and one well-deserved bronze. Let's dive into the thrilling action!
- At -73kg, 19-year-old local hero, Muhiddin ASADULLOEV, squared off against Erdenebayar BATZAYA of Mongolia. ASADULLOEV scored a yuko and clung on for a nail-biting victory, securing his first-ever Grand Slam gold and sending the crowd into a frenzy!
Dushanbe Mayor, Mr Rustam EMOMALI, presented the medals to our brave athletes.
- In the -63kg category, Gankhaich BOLD faced off against double junior World Champion Melkia AUCHECORNE. BOLD made short work of the contest, earning an impressive ippon in under 30 seconds!
The medals were awarded by IJF Education & Coaching Director, Mr Mohammed MERIDJA.
- The epic battle of the day went down between Lara CVJETKO (-70kg) and Kelly PETERSEN POLLARD. After an incredible eight and a half minutes of golden score, CVJETKO timed it perfectly to score the match-ending ippon! A first Grand Slam gold for the World number 1.
Tajikistan NOC Vice President, Mr Dilshod NAZAROV, had the honor of awarding the medals.
- Sparring with Adam TSECHOEV, Olympic bronze medallist Somon MAKHMADBEKOV found himself in a tense contest that went down to the wire. With just 30 seconds left, MAKHMADBEKOV managed to secure a yuko with a brilliant hold-down, sending Tajik fans into raptures and earning another gold for his collection.
This amazing day for Tajikistan was not complete without a bronze medal from Abubakr SHEROV. Talk about a historic performance!
