Brigitte Dethier Wins FAUST Lifetime Achievement Award for Children's Theater Impact

Brigitte Dethier, a stalwart of Stuttgart's theater scene, is set to receive the prestigious FAUST award for her outstanding contributions to children's and youth theater. The mayor, Dr. Fabian Mayer, and cultural department head, Marc Gegenfurtner, have both praised her influence and impact on the city's theater landscape.

Dethier's journey began when she founded and shaped the Young Ensemble Stuttgart (JES) as its first artistic director. Under her leadership, the JES gained nationwide and international recognition, becoming one of the most significant venues for young audiences. Her dedication to the theater's next generation has been commended by Gegenfurtner.

In 2009, Dethier won the FAUST prize for her direction of the play 'Noch 5 Minuten'. Now, she is being honored again with the FAUST special prize for a lifetime's work, awarded annually since 2006 to notable figures in theater and dance. Mayer emphasized her influence on the city's children's and youth theater.

Dethier's influence extends beyond Stuttgart. She held the chair of the International Association of Theater for Children and Youth ASSITEJ until 2024 and has been the chairwoman of the Deutscher Bühnenverein since 2022. She also acted in Milan Gather's play 'Oma Monika' after two decades of work behind the scenes, demonstrating her versatility and commitment to the arts.

Brigitte Dethier's exceptional commitment to children's and youth theater has earned her the FAUST award. Her influence on Stuttgart's theater scene, particularly through her leadership of the JES, has been transformative. As she hands over the reins to the next generation, her legacy continues to inspire and shape the city's cultural landscape.
