Brighton Bolsters Squad with Signings of Maelys Mpomé and Rosa Kafaji

Brighton & Hove Albion have made two significant signings during the transfer window, with Maelys Mpomé and Rosa Kafaji joining the club.

Maelys Mpomé, a versatile defender, joins Brighton on a permanent basis following a career progression from Montpellier to Chelsea. During her time at Montpellier, Mpomé made over 70 appearances and established herself as a solid central defender. She also had a brief stint at VGA Saint-Maur at the beginning of her career. In 2024, Mpomé moved to Chelsea but struggled to secure regular playing time in a star-studded defense, making just eight appearances across all competitions during a season in which Chelsea won the domestic treble (WSL, FA Cup, League Cup).

Rosa Kafaji, a two-time Serie A winner with Moeka Minami, arrives at Brighton on a season-long loan deal. Kafaji previously played for Hacken before joining Arsenal, where she made 19 appearances but could only register a single goal in the 2024-25 season.

Brighton's head coach, Dario Vidosic, expressed optimism about Mpomé's potential, highlighting her versatility and attributes as a defender and anticipating significant development during her time at the club. Vidosic also believes Kafaji is a fantastic addition to Brighton's team for the new campaign.

The signings of Mpomé and Kafaji mark Brighton's sixth and seventh permanent acquisition or loan signing of the transfer window, respectively. The signings do not affect Brighton's financial situation as Kafaji's deal is a loan, and Mpomé's transfer does not change Brighton's head coach, Dario Vidosic.

With these signings, Brighton aims to strengthen their squad ahead of the new season and compete at a higher level in the Women's Super League.

Career Progression

| Career Phase | Club | Highlights | |-------------------------|----------------------|---------------------------------------------| | Early Career | VGA Saint-Maur | Initial French club experience | | Development Years | Montpellier HSC | 70+ appearances, key defender role | | Step Up to Elite Level | Chelsea | Limited playing time, domestic treble winner, Champions League experience | | Current & Future Stage | Brighton & Hove Albion | Permanent move, expected regular play and development in WSL | | Loan Move | Arsenal | 19 appearances, single goal | | Current Loan | Brighton & Hove Albion | Season-long loan, anticipated contribution |

These transfers mark an important phase for Mpomé and Kafaji to gain consistent game time and continue developing their skills at a competitive level, potentially raising their profiles for future national team opportunities and a prominent club career.
