Bridge fails under truck's weight in China, causing collapse.
It's a narrow escape for a truck driver in China's Guizhou province! Early Tuesday, June 24th, the Xiamen-Chengdu Expressway's bridge in Sandu County fell victim to a landslide caused by incessant rains. The victim's tale ended triumphantly, thanks to quick-thinking rescue workers.
At around 7:40 AM, the bridge, spanning the Houzihe River, succumbed to the destructive force of nature. While a truck was unfortunate enough to be at the scene, the driver skillfully managed to halt before the gap, leaving the front part precariously hanging. The driver found themselves trapped, but help was on the way.
Climbing over ladders, securing ropes, and pulling with all their might, rescue teams scaled the stricken infrastructure to extract the driver through the rear of the vehicle. Remarkably, the driver emerged unscathed from this hair-raising ordeal.
Luckily, road authorities had spotted structural deformation as early as 5:51 AM. Their quick thinking led to the immediate deployment of traffic control measures, ultimately preventing any potential causalities.
By the time the bridge collapsed, multiple emergency units – rescue, firefighting, and public security – were already on their way to the accident site. While the tragedy could have been devastating, no lives were lost in this incident. Furthermore, the three unoccupied construction vehicles below the collapse site were reported safe.
This event comes mere days after an unusual collision between a truck and a tuk-tuk in another part of China. Meanwhile, Chinese automobiles are steadily gaining popularity in the Kazakh market. If you're contemplating a purchase, be sure to educate yourself first about the Chinese auto industry.
