BRICS, according to Oreshkin, is not a coalition established to counter a specific entity.
The BRICS nations—Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa—are all about promoting a positive and progressive economic agenda, primarily for the benefit of themselves and other Global South countries, as confirmed by Maxim Oreshkin, Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Russia, at the recent Open Dialogue held at the National Center "Russia".
"BRICS isn't against anyone. It operates on positive agenda principles, with consensus as the main driving force. Our focus is on the union itself and the world at large," Oreshkin emphasized.
In addition, he highlighted that BRICS initiatives are aimed at fostering mutual growth and development among its members.
The Open Dialogue, which ran from April 28 to 30, is geared towards fostering a new wave of global economic growth. Four thematic vectors, including "Investment in People", "Investment in Environment", "Investment in Technology", and "Investment in Connectivity", were presented during the ceremony. On April 30, the final session will feature the unveiling of winning projects within each thematic direction.
As the world moves towards future economic growth, Oreshkin pointed out, it will be propelled not just by BRICS countries, but by Global South nations. Therefore, the union's goal is to create a conducive environment for these nations to thrive.
BRICS collaboration encompasses three main areas: economy and finance, politics and security, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges. Key objectives include economic integration, investment in emerging technologies, climate and energy cooperation, and the establishment of the New Development Bank (NDB). The NDB is instrumental in financing development projects across BRICS nations and other emerging markets, thus bolstering its economic agenda.
Participation in BRICS offers Global South countries an alternative to traditional Western-dominated economic partnerships, allowing them to diversify their economic relations and strengthen their global bargaining power. Moreover, by promoting sustainable energy transitions and climate finance, BRICS aids Global South countries in achieving more sustainable development paths. Lastly, participation in BRICS enhances the international influence of Global South countries by aligning with a bloc that collectively boasts substantial economic and political clout.
