Brewers Top MLB with 97 Wins Despite Lower Payroll; Raleigh Sets HR Record

The 2022 MLB season has concluded, with the Milwaukee Brewers leading the pack with the best record at 97-65, despite a relatively modest payroll of $142.2 million. Meanwhile, the New York Mets, who had the second-highest payroll, struggled in the latter half of the season, finishing at 101-61. Cal Raleigh made history with 60 home runs, while Clayton Kershaw ended his career on a high note.

The Brewers' impressive performance secured them the best record in baseball. Despite their lower payroll compared to the Mets, they maintained a consistent form throughout the season. In contrast, the Mets, who held the best record on June 12, faltered in the latter half, winning only 38 of their remaining 93 games. Their high payroll did not translate into sustained success.

Cal Raleigh etched his name in the record books this season. The catcher and switch-hitter smashed 60 home runs, setting new records for his position and hitting style. Meanwhile, Clayton Kershaw, after multiple offseason surgeries, finished his 18-year career with an 11-2 record and a 3.36 ERA, a fitting end to a illustrious career.

The postseason is set to begin with the Yankees facing the Red Sox in a Wild Card Series at Yankee Stadium. In the 2022 World Series, the Astros (AL) faced the Phillies (NL), after the Dodgers' early exit from the playoffs. The Mets, despite an identical 83-79 record with the Reds, missed the playoffs, leaving manager Carlos Mendoza's future uncertain. The Reds, however, will face the Dodgers in a Wild Card Series at Dodger Stadium.

The Cleveland Guardians pulled off a remarkable comeback, winning the AL Central by a game. They overcame a 15.5-game deficit against the Tigers on July 8. Notably, the Reds outperformed the Mets in their head-to-head meetings, winning four out of six games.

The Brewers' strong performance and the Mets' late-season collapse highlight the unpredictable nature of baseball. Raleigh's record-breaking season and Kershaw's career-ending success story provide memorable moments. As the postseason begins, the Yankees, Red Sox, Reds, and Dodgers will vie for supremacy, while the Mets and their manager face an uncertain future.
