Brewers secures a dominating 9-2 victory over the Angels, with Peralta recording his National League-leading 17th win and Yelich hitting a homerun.
Brewers Outlast Angels as Freddy Peralta Shines
In a thrilling matchup between the Milwaukee Brewers and the Los Angeles Angels, it was the Brewers who emerged victorious, thanks in large part to a stellar performance from Freddy Peralta.
Peralta, who extended his career-high in wins to 17, was on fire from the first pitch. He struck out the side in the first, second, and sixth innings, allowing only two hits throughout his six-inning outing. The right-hander also tallied at least 10 strikeouts for the 15th time in his career and first this season, tying the Milwaukee Brewers' franchise record set by Zach Davies in 2017.
Offensively, the Brewers got off to a strong start with Christian Yelich driving an RBI double in the first inning. Yelich continued his impressive form, hitting a two-run home run in the fourth inning, his 29th of the season. William Contreras and Sal Frelick also contributed to the Brewers' offense, with Contreras singling home two runs and Frelick hitting a sacrifice fly. Caleb Durbin, Andrew Vaughn, and Jackson Chourio each drove in a run for Milwaukee as well.
The Angels, who were without their regular shortstop Zach Neto due to a left hand strain, turned to Carter Kieboom as a late-season replacement. Kieboom made his Angels debut at first base, returning to the majors for the first time since October 1, 2023, while with Washington. Kieboom had a bloop single against Peralta, but the Angels struggled to find consistent offense, with Denzer Guzman's home run against Peralta being their only other significant highlight.
Caden Dana (0-2) took the loss for the Angels, allowing five runs on eight hits in 3 2/3 innings. Jose Soriano (10-10, 4.13 ERA) will start for the Angels in the next game, while Brandon Woodruff (6-2, 3.32) will take the mound for the Brewers.
This win moves the Brewers one step closer to securing their playoff spot, while the Angels continue to struggle in the latter stages of the season.
