Brennan Lee Mulligan discusses the popular NPC character from the 'Dimension 20: Cloudward, Ho!' game.
Dimension 20's hilarious new character stepped right into our hearts
Jump in on Dimension 20's latest steampunk adventure, Cloudward, Ho!, and you'll be swoonin' for the witty Wealwell Gotch. This laid-back lad, one of Maxwell Gotch's (Brian Murphy) six boisterous brothers, is already stealing the show thanks to his infectious charm and hilarious antics.
Brennan Lee Mulligan, the mastermind behind Dimension 20, couldn't have planned it any better. To be fair, he probably wouldn't have claimed the spotlight if the cast didn't take the bait, but we're glad they did!
You see, the cast can sniff out a sweet character name like Wealwell from a mile away. "If I had made Wealwell, [the cast] wouldn't have loved him as much," Mulligan admitted to our website. "The Intrepid Heroes smell fear, and when a character has a stupid name and a weird voice, they can tell right away."
Cue Murphy's character revealing Wealwell's existence in the campaign premiere.
The rest is literally history! Mulligan instantly let loose with Wealwell's over-the-top, melodramatic voice, and the rest of the cast couldn't resist joining in on the fun. That's the beauty of Dimension 20—spontaneity at its finest!
From then on, Wealwell stuck by Maxwell and Olethra MacLeod (Ally Beardsley), embarking on the wild adventure aboard the Zephyr airship. The cast continued to flesh out Wealwell's quirks and characteristics, titillating the audience with a dash of humor and parody.
Curious to know more about this steam-powered wonder? Murphy describes Wealwell as "fun" and "solid," which helps set him apart from Maxwell's aristocratic, pretentious brothers[1]. Beardsley goes a step further by declaring Wealwell, yup, you guessed it, "super hot."
Oh, and did we mention Wealwell's constant queasiness? It's a delightful touch that adds to the character's charm, especially when he's supposed to be spending a significant amount of time up in the sky[2].
Wealwell Gotch—the irresistible, sickly-sweet sibling you didn't know you needed—is more than just a blink-and-you'll-miss-him character. He's become a reigning favorite among Dimension 20's loyal fanbase, forever cementing his place in the fast-growing tapestry of the Cloudward, Ho! storyline[4].
Tune in to Dimension 20: Cloudward, Ho! every Wednesday at 7 p.m. ET on Dropout to catch new episodes and see how Wealwell grows (or not) throughout the season.
