Breanna Stewart, player of Liberty, intends to participate in Game 2 of the playoffs against Mercury, despite a concerning knee injury.
Breanna Stewart, the star player for the New York Liberty, will suit up for Game 2 of the 2025 WNBA Playoffs against the Phoenix Mercury, despite a recent injury.
Stewart missed a significant portion of the season after suffering a bone bruise on the other knee in late July. She returned to the court in Game 1 of the playoffs, scoring 18 points and grabbing six rebounds before injuring her knee once more.
In Game 1, Stewart sprained the MCL in her left knee when she drove to the baseline and was fouled with 3:01 left in overtime. Despite the setback, she plans to play in Game 2 on Wednesday night.
Phoenix Mercury coach Nate Tibbetts expects his team to test Stewart's mobility early in the game. Stewart, however, is taking a cautious approach, saying she wants to make sure she wakes up from her nap and doesn't feel bad before the game.
The Liberty will be without Jonquel Jones and Sabrina Ionescu for parts of the season due to injuries. Jones missed significant time early in the season due to a sprained ankle, while Ionescu was out for a few games late in the season due to a toe injury she suffered in practice.
The next game for the WNBA, Game 3, would be played in Phoenix on Friday. The House has also passed a bill to avoid a partial government shutdown, but it remains to be seen how this will affect the schedule for the WNBA playoffs.
In other news, Megan Thompson announced expect closures near downtown Phoenix and along the 60 this weekend. Scripps News obtained video of the accused Charlie Kirk shooter after a 2022 car crash, but Lori Jane Gliha posted an update about the video, stating that the identity of the individual in the video has not been confirmed.
Trump has floated the idea of revoking licenses for networks critical of him, but no action has been taken as of yet. Stewart wore a sleeve on her left knee during shootaround before Game 2, indicating that she is taking steps to manage the injury and ensure her readiness for the game.
