Breakneck Speed Reached by American Athlete in Record-Breaking 400m Sprint at World Championships
In the ongoing World Athletics Championships, several notable performances have caught the attention of spectators. One of the standout athletes is Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone, who has been making waves in the 400-metre hurdles.
McLaughlin-Levrone, coached by the renowned Bobby Kersee, broke a 19-year-old American record in the 400 flat semifinal with a time of 48.29 seconds. This impressive performance earned her a spot in the final, where she will compete against the likes of Marileidy Paulino, who finished second in the same race with a time of 47.98 seconds (the third fastest time in history). Kenny Bednarek and Letsile Tebogo are also set to join the final.
McLaughlin-Levrone's coach, Kersee, is no stranger to success in the world of track and field. Known for training top athletes, he has guided McLaughlin-Levrone to set a record in the 400-meter race. Kersee is also famous for coaching Florence Griffith-Joyner and is married to the former heptathlete Jackie Joyner-Kersee.
Meanwhile, Noah Lyles, who ran the season's best time of 19.51 seconds in the 200-metre semifinals, is another athlete to watch in the championship. His fast time in the semifinals was not a concern for him as he heads into the final.
In the 200-metre semifinals, Gout Gout, a 17-year-old Australian, finished fourth with a time of 20.36 seconds. Gout, who holds the Australian record and draws comparisons to Usain Bolt, believes his future is bright, especially with the 2032 Olympics being held in Brisbane.
Salwa Eid Nasar finished third in the race with a time of 48.19 seconds, while Amber Anning finished fifth with a time of 49.36 seconds.
In other events, Zoe Hobbs, a Kiwi sprinter, narrowly missed out on a place in the 100m final, finishing fifth in her semi-final with a time of 11.09 seconds. Hamish Kerr, on the other hand, won the high jump gold at the world athletics championships.
The fastest time in the 400-metre race, 47.60, was set by East Germany's Marita Koch in 1985. As the championships continue, it remains to be seen if any athlete can break this long-standing record.
