Brazil's ex-president Bolsonaro faces home detention
In the world of politics and justice, two significant trials are underway, one in Germany and the other in the United States.
In Germany, a trial against a former employee of AfD politician Maximilian Krah for espionage has begun. The accused, Jian Guo (also identified as Jian G.), is suspected of spying for China since 2002. Guo, who was an aide to Krah in the European Parliament from September 2019 until his arrest in April 2024, is accused of sharing over 500 sensitive documents from the European Parliament with Chinese officials.
The charges against Guo also include the collection of personal information on AfD party leaders such as Alice Weidel and Tino Chrupalla, and spying on Chinese opposition figures and dissidents in Germany. A second defendant, Yaqi X., is alleged to have provided flight, cargo, and passenger data related to arms shipments at Leipzig Airport to aid Guo.
Maximilian Krah, who served as an MEP from 2019 to 2025 and is now a member of the German Bundestag, denies any knowledge of Guo’s alleged espionage activities. The trial is proceeding in Dresden with multiple hearing dates scheduled through late September 2025.
Meanwhile, in the United States, music mogul Sean Combs is facing a trial for sexual offenses. Combs has been in jail since September, and the sentence for him will be determined in October. No specific details about the nature of the sexual offenses against Combs have been provided. A judge has denied his release, and the identity of the presiding judge remains unknown.
In a separate news, over a year ago, a terrorist attack occurred at a Moscow concert hall, resulting in over 140 deaths. The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack.
As these trials unfold, the world continues to watch closely, awaiting the verdicts and the outcomes for those involved.
