Check out the latest sports drama! Today, we're diving into the heated exchange between the Baltimore Orioles and the New York Yankees!
In the heart of the fourth inning during their 5-4 victory over the Yankees on Wednesday, chaos erupted. Heston Kjerstad, an Orioles outfielder, took a daring slide into second base, causing Yankees second baseman Pablo Reyes to collide with him after leaping to snag a misthrown ball from catcher Austin Wells.
The unfortunate collision led to the benches clearing as both teams' players streamed onto the field, including Carlos Carrasco, the Yankees' starting pitcher, who hustled over to second base. Fortunately, dialogue was the only exchange, as the intense situation quickly deescalated.
"A scuffle, emotions ran high from both sides," Kjerstad explained postgame. "I don't think it was too dramatic."
Reyes, on the other hand, felt disrespected by Kjerstad's remarks after the play. "A couple remarks stirred up feelings of disrespect," Reyes said through a translator. "Later on, he toned it down."
Reyes expressed that Kjerstad may have mistakenly assumed the collision was intentional. "Perhaps he thought I did it on purpose, but clearly, he couldn't see the throw or how the play unfolded."
The Orioles clinched the game and the series, marking their second series win of the season, with two out of three games against the Yankees. The team would take on the Kansas City Royals on Friday at 7:05 p.m. ET following a day off on Thursday. The Yankees, with a day off on Thursday, would face the Tampa Bay Rays on Friday at the same time.
