Braves triumph with Ozuna's 3-run performance, securing a sweep against Nationals

In a thrilling encounter on Friday, September 17, 2025, the Atlanta Braves managed to secure a narrow victory against the Washington Nationals. The game was filled with dramatic moments, with Marcell Ozuna being the standout player for the Braves.

The game started with Hurston Waldrep on the mound for the Braves. Waldrep, who has been in fine form, impressed yet again, striking out eight batters in five innings. Unfortunately, the shutout was broken in the fourth inning when CJ Abrams singled for the Braves, allowing runs to flow for both teams.

The Nationals responded in the fifth inning, scoring three runs. Dylan Crews, Robert Hassell III, and James Wood were instrumental in this rally, each driving in a run. The Braves, however, were not to be outdone. In the same inning, they allowed three runs, with the scoreline remaining tight.

The sixth inning brought more drama. Marcell Ozuna drove in two runs, with Ozzie Albies and Drake Baldwin crossing the plate. This was followed by a close call at third base and home plate, but Ozuna's run was ultimately ruled as a no-run. The inning also saw Drake Baldwin drive in Ronald Acuña Jr. with an RBI double, and Nacho Alvarez Jr. had an RBI single, giving the Braves a 4-3 lead.

The Nationals tried to fight back in the later stages of the game, but the Braves' defence held firm. In the ninth inning, Ozzie Albies, Ha-Seong Kim, and Michael Harris II all had RBIs to extend the Braves' lead.

The game ended with the Braves securing a hard-fought 7-3 victory. Marcell Ozuna was the star of the show, being involved in six runs throughout the game. Matt Olson also had a strong performance, hitting a solo home run and driving in eleven runs in his last six games.

Looking ahead, the Braves will start RHP Bryce Elder (7-10, 5.56 ERA) on Friday against the Detroit Tigers, aiming to continue their winning streak.
