Braves star Ronald Acuna Jr. is now on the injured list due to tightness in his Achilles, adding another troublesome episode to Atlanta's already challenging season.
Ronald Acuña Jr. Suffers Right Calf Strain, Set to Miss Two to Three Weeks
Ronald Acuña Jr., the star outfielder for the Atlanta Braves, is set to miss two to three weeks due to a Grade 1 right calf strain. The injury occurred during Tuesday's game against the Kansas City Royals.
In the sixth inning, Acuña was chasing a foul ball when he was injured. The ball hit by Royals' shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. drifted foul, and Acuña, in an attempt to retrieve it, felt the pain. Despite the discomfort, Acuña initially tried to wave off his team when the coaching staff tried to take him out of the game. He was eventually met by a team trainer in the dugout and walked into the clubhouse.
Acuña had been in top form before the injury. He entered Tuesday's game hitting .309 after being named to the National League All-Star team for the fifth time. However, the injury has put a halt to his impressive run. Acuña was spotted in a walking boot after the game, according to MLB.com.
This is not the first time Acuña has been sidelined due to an injury. He missed the first 49 games of this year due to a knee injury from last season. Acuña also has a history of ACL tears in his left knee, occurring in 2021 and 2024.
Despite the setback, Acuña remains optimistic about his recovery. He expressed concern about the current injury, stating it causes pain and he feels it when putting pressure on it. However, he also stated that he felt pain while running the bases on Monday but chose to play for his team. Acuña reported his calf at "120%" prior to his return, indicating recovery beyond full strength.
The Braves have placed Acuña on the 10-day injured list. No new information about the recovery timeline for Acuña's current injury is provided, but the team is hopeful that he will return to active play soon. In the meantime, Eli White will replace Acuña in right field.
