Brave young firefighters in Primstal excelled in their firefighting craftsmanship.
Pristal Youth Fire Brigade Hosts Professional Firefighter Day
In the picturesque town of Nonnweiler, the Pristal district's youth fire brigade recently held a "Professional Firefighter Day" event. The day began at 8:00 am with a gathering at the vehicle hall, where Fire Chief Alexander Kuhn, Deputy District Chief Daniel Birtel, Youth Fire Brigade Supervisor Julian Becker, and Local Mayor Jonas Reiter welcomed everyone involved.
The day was filled with immersive, realistic firefighting and rescue simulations designed to teach young participants practical skills and foster teamwork. The objectives focused on giving youths hands-on experience with firefighting equipment, understanding the demands of professional firefighting, and fostering confidence and crew cooperation.
The first alarm went off at 8:30 am for a technical assistance operation due to leaking operating materials. The goal was to prevent these from entering a body of water. Units from Braunshausen and Kastel, as well as the German Red Cross Kreisverband St. Wendel, were involved for reinforcement. The exercise also included documenting the deployment.
The exercise scenario involved a serious traffic accident with trapped persons and leaking hazardous material. The young firefighters used hydraulic equipment, provided care for patients, applied a c-spine, handed over to the rescue service, and caught leaking operating materials. Three people, two of whom were unconscious, had to be carefully brought out to the first aid using a Stokes basket.
Around 11:00 am, another alarm was triggered for a "Garden Shed Door Opening with Person Rescue". The door was locked, requiring the use of an axe, lever, and breaking tools to open it. The tasks included supplying water for firefighting, providing safety teams with breathing apparatus, attacking the fire, shielding adjacent buildings, and rescuing persons from the first floor.
Throughout the day, the participants were constantly supervised during the simulated deployments, which had been carefully planned and prepared. The young firefighters received recognition from their trainers and the certainty that they had taken an important step towards real operational practice.
The course mimicked the structures of a firefighter's daily routine, including theoretical instructions, practical exercises, vehicle and equipment maintenance, and simulated deployments. In addition to the units from Pristal, Braunshausen, and Kastel, the turntable ladder vehicle from Bosen-Eckelhausen was also deployed.
The event concluded after 45 minutes, marking the end of another successful Professional Firefighter Day for the Pristal Youth Fire Brigade. These events provide a valuable opportunity for young people to gain an insight into the world of professional firefighting, foster team spirit, and develop a readiness for deployment.
Participants were given the opportunity to experience the demands of professional sports through the practical training exercises, utilizing firefighting equipment and working together as a team. The immersive simulations allowed the youths to develop the same skills required in professional sports, such as agility, teamwork, and mental fortitude.
Despite the intense physical exertion and pressure during the simulated deployments, the young firefighters showed remarkable resilience, displaying the same determination and focus as professional athletes during high-stakes competition.
