Man Disarms Armed Robber at Supermarket Checkout - Brave shopper stops knife-wielding robber in Dortmund supermarket

A knife-wielding robber was overpowered by a customer during an attempted hold-up at a supermarket in Dortmund. The incident took place on Monday evening in the Huckarde district, where a 44-year-old man threatened a cashier before being subdued. No one was injured in the confrontation.

The suspect entered the supermarket and approached the till, brandishing a knife at the cashier. His demands were cut short when a 39-year-old shopper intervened. The customer quickly disarmed the attacker and forced him to the ground, holding him until police arrived.

Authorities later confirmed the 44-year-old was under the influence of narcotics at the time. His behaviour was described as erratic, leading to his immediate transfer to a psychiatric facility after the arrest. Prosecutors have since opened criminal proceedings against him on charges of aggravated robbery.

The swift action of the customer prevented any harm and brought the situation under control. The suspect remains in custody, with legal proceedings now underway. Police have confirmed no injuries were sustained by staff or shoppers during the incident.
