Eintracht Braunschweig: FCK Turns to Former Coach Lieberknecht

The 0-2 defeat against Eintracht Braunschweig marked the end of Markus Anfang's tenure as coach of 1. FC Kaiserslautern. Anfang was dismissed on Tuesday evening following FCK's failure to secure points in their last three competitive games, a move that was not entirely unexpected given his chance for promotion with the Red Devils.

Taking over the reins at FCK with immediate effect is none other than Torsten Lieberknecht, a former cult coach of Eintracht Braunschweig. Lieberknecht and his assistant, Carsten Rump, will join the club ahead of the match against Schalke on April 27, a significant game given Markus Anfang's recent association with the latter club.

The mission for Lieberknecht and Rump is clear: FCK aims to return to the promotion places, with a three-point gap separating them from the promotion play-off spot. Direct promotion, however, appears out of reach.

A seasoned coach, Lieberknecht has a proven track record of promotions. He led Eintracht Braunschweig and Darmstadt 98 to the Bundesliga. Born on August 1, 1973, in Bad Dürkheim, Lieberknecht played mainly in southwestern Germany before joining Eintracht Braunschweig as a player in 2003. After retiring, he began his coaching career, leading Eintracht Braunschweig's professional team for about ten years starting in 2008.

Lieberknecht's coaching tenure at Eintracht Braunschweig was marked by stability and a significant impact on the team. However, his current coaching commitments are with other clubs, having left Eintracht Braunschweig before 2025 and also coaching 1. FC Kaiserslautern and SV Darmstadt 98 in recent years.

Lieberknecht, the former coach of Eintracht Braunschweig, will now manage FCK, as they aim to get back into the promotion places in European football leagues, with a three-point gap to close to secure a spot in the promotion play-offs. During his time at Eintracht Braunschweig, Lieberknecht led them to the Bundesliga, showcasing his expertise in football.
