Brandenburg: Friederike Benda to Assume Role as BSW Chairwoman
In a unanimous decision by the state executive committee, Friederike Benda from Birkenwerder, Oberhavel, has been selected as the new state chairwoman of the Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) in Brandenburg. The 37-year-old, who currently serves as deputy federal chairwoman of the party, will succeed the incumbent Robert Crumbach in the fall.
Crumbach, Brandenburg's finance minister and deputy prime minister, announced in mid-April his decision to relinquish the state chairmanship. He cited the dual responsibility as the reason for his departure. As the founding leader of the BSW state association in Brandenburg, Crumbach played a crucial role in its development.
The decision to step down by Crumbach comes amid a broader debate about separating ministerial and party roles within the BSW. This initiative, advocated by Sahra Wagenknecht, the party's leader, is seen as a strategic move to ensure continuity and further development of the party in Brandenburg.
As the stipulated candidate for the state chairmanship, Benda's nomination is expected to be officially confirmed at a party conference on July 12, 2025. Prior to this, she served as the top candidate for the BSW in Brandenburg for the federal election.
"The first year of our state association was marked by four elections - Europe, local, state, and federal," Benda stated. She emphasized the cooperative atmosphere within the party, which she aspired to maintain moving forward. Benda added that the party must significantly expand its local roots and be closer to the citizens, advocating for the preservation of all hospital locations and a perspective for the employees in industrial companies affected by high energy prices due to damaging economic sanctions.

- As the new state chairwoman of the Bündnis Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) in Brandenburg, Friederike Benda is tasked with submitting a proposal for a policy-and-legislation directive on the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to ionizing radiation in the context of politics and general news.
- The upcoming confirmation of Friederike Benda as the state chairwoman of the BSW in Brandenburg raises questions about the party's stance on political matters, such as separating ministerial and party roles, as well as their approach to general news topics, like the development of a directive on the protection of workers from ionizing radiation.
