Brahmaputra Basin Unites for Climate Resilience in Historic Declaration

People's declaration for resilient Brahmaputra basin adopted at Jorhat consultation

A two-day 'People's Consultation on Strengthening Humanitarian Response and Climate Resilience in the Brahmaputra Basin' concluded on Friday at Jorhat, where community leaders, disaster management experts, and climate specialists gathered to address pressing challenges in the region, particularly in relation to climate change and resilience.

The consultation, hosted by NEADS in partnership with IAG Assam and local humanitarian groups, was supported by the Start Network, ASDMA, the Brahmaputra River Basin Organisation, and international climate resilience partners. Over two days, participants examined humanitarian trends, climate change impacts, and shifting river patterns affecting Assam.

The consultation concluded with a clear call for action rooted in local knowledge and leadership. The People’s Declaration now serves as a roadmap for improving humanitarian efforts and climate resilience across the Brahmaputra Basin, focusing on climate change and resilience strategies. Organisers and participants will push for its adoption by regional authorities and aid agencies in the coming months.
