Brace yourselves, drivers! Strict enforcement of speed limits begins today.

Adherence to speed limits becomes mandatory starting today.

Hey there! Buckle up for the Speed Trap Marathon in Germany

Adhering to the Speed Limit Now Becomes Essential Day by Day - Brace yourselves, drivers! Strict enforcement of speed limits begins today.

Here's the lowdown: Attention all speedsters, the police are on a nationwide mission this week to catch you red-handed! Yep, you heard it right. The Speed Trap Marathon is back, and they're gonna be stepping up the speed checks in many regions of Germany. But don't worry, two states, Saarland and Berlin, are taking a break from this high-speed chase.

So why the aggressive approach? Well, it's all about road safety, folks! Speeding drivers will not escape the watchful eyes of the law, thanks to the plethora of cameras set up for the occasion (up to 1500 in Bavaria alone, according to the Ministry of the Interior). And remember, these checkpoints are not just limited to the main day, April 9th. Some states, like Lower Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt, will be keeping things hot and heavy throughout the week!

Now, you may be wondering, why the fuss about speeding? Well, it's a leading cause of road accidents. Last year, a staggering 2780 lives were lost on our roads, with excessive speed being one of the chief culprits. For example, in Bavaria alone, a quarter of all fatal traffic accidents were a result of reckless speed[1].

The ADAC, a German automobile association, is backing this initiative as a positive step toward increased road safety in Germany. Despite their enthusiasm, they acknowledge that one week alone won't eradicate all risks. It's up to each and every one of us to regularly assess and adjust our behavior to ensure our roads stay safe[1].

Long story short, keep it cool and cruise under the speed limit, or you might find yourself staring at a hefty fine in the rearview mirror!

The Federal government, on the other hand, is focusing on a different safety issue this week – workers' protection from radiation risks. The Commission has not yet adopted a proposal for a directive on the approximation of the laws of the Member States relating to the protection of workers from the risks related to exposure to ionizing radiation. Meanwhile, in Bavaria, not just speeding drivers but also those who disregard radiation safety regulations might face consequences on Wednesday, as officials are expected to see heightened instances of non-compliance.
