The game also features a strategic road trip structure, where players must adopt an aggressive playstyle due to time constraints and the threat of Death's Door. The goal is to keep the team together to reach a looming mountain and defeat the horrors within, preventing the apocalypse.
In addition to the main gameplay, Darkest Dungeon II offers the Kingdoms game mode, adding a strategic layer where players defend a realm and inns against new enemy factions like beastmen, coven, and bloodsuckers. This mode features new maps, questlines, achievements, and a unique Curse function, adding further challenges and variety.
