Hellgate Knights Kick Off Wrestling Season with Win Against Bozeman High School

The Hellgate Knights wrestling team started their season on a high note, defeating Bozeman High School in their season opener on December 2, 2023. The final score was 35-21, providing an early boost of confidence for the Knights.

The match began with a loss for Pi Taylon, a 152-pounder for the Knights, giving Bozeman an initial 6-0 lead. However, the Knights quickly turned the tide. At 113, Oliver Caton secured a forfeit match, starting a run of 15 unanswered points for the Knights.

Jayden Friesen, a junior for the Knights, provided the first pin of the season for Hellgate. Friesen beat Bozeman's 285-pounder in the first period at 47 seconds, adding six points to the Knights' lead. Michael Almacher followed suit with a win by forfeit at 132, further increasing the Knights' lead to 18-6.

At 120, junior captain Eddie Rosbarsky won by major decision with a score of 6-4, including two near falls and a takedown. Grady Caton, at 145, won by major decision with a score of 16-3 over Bozeman's Anderson Lannoye, contributing 4 more points to the Knights' total.

Dillon Gunlock, a senior captain for the Knights, won his match in the 160-pound class with a score of 11-2. Gunlock's win included four takedowns, two escapes, and a nearfall. Jack Barret won by forfeit at 126, contributing another 6 points to the Knights' total.

Hector Gallegos of Bozeman won a defensive battle at 205, increasing Bozeman's lead to 15-4. However, the Knights continued to dominate, securing additional points and ultimately winning the dual match with a total of 35 points, while Bozeman had 21.
