Hellgate Knights Wrestling Team Secures First Dual Win Since 2011

The Hellgate Knights wrestling team kicked off their season with a victory, defeating Bozeman High School with a score of 35-21. The win, which marked the team's first dual win since 2011, was a significant milestone for the Knights.

The match began on a high note for the Knights, with junior Jayden Friesen securing the first pin of the season against Bozeman's 285-pounder. Friesen's pin occurred at 47 seconds in the first period, giving the Knights an early 6-0 lead.

Oliver Caton's forfeit match at 113 began a run of 15 unanswered points for the Knights. This was followed by Jack Barret, a member of the Knights, earning a forfeit win at 126, contributing six points to the team's total.

Dillon Gunlock, a senior captain for the Knights, won his 160-pound match against Bozeman's Andrew Sikes with a score of 11-2. Gunlock's win included four takedowns, two escapes, and a nearfall.

Eddie Rosbarsky, another junior captain for the Knights, won his match against Bozeman with a score of 6-4 by major decision. Rosbarsky's victory included two near falls and a takedown.

The Knights' lead was further extended by Michael Almacher, who won a forfeit match at 132, adding another six points to the team's total. The final match of the dual was won by Grady Caton, a 145-pound junior for the Knights, with a dominant 16-3 win by major decision over Bozeman's Anderson Lannoye. Caton's win contributed four more points to the Knights' total, giving them a final score of 35 points, compared to Bozeman's 21.

Bozeman's only victories came from Hector Gallegos, who won a defensive match at 205 with a score of 2-1, increasing the Hawks' lead to 15-4, and Bozeman's 152-pounder, who defeated Pi Taylon of the Knights, giving the Hawks a 6-0 lead.

Coach Gunlock stated that starting the dual with a win is important for setting an example for the younger wrestlers. The Knights wrestling team will participate in the Mining City Duals in Butte from December 8-9 as their season continues.

In other news, both the boys and girls basketball teams for the Knights will be at home for their season opening games against Billings Skyview on December 8.
