Wolfgang Schwalm Launches Solo Career as "Der Herzbube Wolfgang"
After a 36-year run as one half of the folk music duo Wildecker Herzbuben, Wolfgang Schwalm is stepping out on his own. The German singer has signed a new record deal and is set to launch his solo career this autumn with a new song and music video in production.
Schwalm's new stage name will be "Der Herzbube Wolfgang," and he plans to continue wearing his traditional Schwälmer Tracht. The split of the Wildecker Herzbuben was mainly due to the declining health of Wilfried Gliem, who had to perform in a wheelchair or with a walker. Gliem still holds the rights to the "Wildecker Herzbuben" brand, but Schwalm is focusing on his independent projects going forward.
The final joint performance of the Wildecker Herzbuben with Gliem is planned for September at a Schlager show hosted by Heidi Klum. This will mark a fitting farewell to the duo, who became known in 1989 with the hit "Herzilein." The show, known as "HeidiFest," will also feature other notable artists such as Jürgen Drews, Michelle and Eric Philippi, Peter Kraus, Thomas Anders, Roberto Blanco, and the Wildecker Herzbuben themselves.
The Hofbräuhaus in Munich will become "the ultimate pre-Wiesn party venue" with a star lineup, including Schlager legends, party greats, and international guests. It's set to be an unforgettable event, and fans of both Schwalm and the Wildecker Herzbuben are sure to be in for a treat.
Despite the separation, there seems to be no bitterness between Schwalm and Gliem. Gliem has expressed his potential interest in reassembling the duo with a new singer or even Schwalm himself if he recovers. For now, however, fans can look forward to the exciting new direction that Wolfgang Schwalm is taking with his solo career.
