Boxing world champion is Baraou, a seasoned athlete in the ring.
Abass Baraou Crowned New WBA Super Welterweight Champion
In an exciting turn of events, German boxer Abass Baraou has claimed the World Boxing Association (WBA) super welterweight title. The news was confirmed by a spokesperson for Wasserman Boxing, citing a letter from the WBA.
Baraou secured the interim title last month in Orlando, USA, after a hard-fought twelve-round battle against undefeated Cuban boxer Yoenis Tellez. The victory was a unanimous points decision by the judges.
Terence Crawford, the previous champion, has moved to a different weight class, paving the way for Baraou to become the full WBA super welterweight champion. The interim title is a temporary solution when a boxer cannot defend the actual world title for various reasons.
Baraou, who commutes between Oberhausen and Berlin, has expressed his happiness about being promoted to full world champion but has no special celebrations planned. Instead, he intends to celebrate after his next title defense.
For his next fight, Baraou will defend his title against former world champion Jermell Charlo. If Charlo is unable to take on the challenge, Jaron "Boots" Ennis might be his opponent instead.
Before facing Baraou, Tellez was undefeated. However, Baraou's victory sets him on a path to potentially becoming the undisputed WBA super welterweight champion.
No specific reason was given as to why the actual world champion could not defend the title. Baraou, who won the interim title in August, has not announced any special celebrations for his interim title win, but plans to celebrate after his next title defense.
The boxing world eagerly awaits Baraou's next fight, as he looks to solidify his position as the WBA super welterweight champion.
