Rising Star Joscelyn Olayo-Munoz Secures First International Victory

Joscelyn Olayo-Munoz, a promising young boxer from the USA Boxing Youth High Performance team, has made a significant leap in her career with a victorious debut in the international arena. Olayo-Munoz, a recent graduate from Las Cruces High School, clinched the 106-pound category at the Brandenburg Cup international amateur boxing tournament in Frankfurt, Germany.

In an historic first, Olayo-Munoz defeated Eliska Ostra from the Czech Republic by unanimous decision. This marked her first international boxing bout, a milestone she achieved with an execution of the game plan that was near-flawless.

Danny Melendrez, Olayo-Munoz's stepfather and coach, watched the bout from Las Cruces via streaming. Despite not being physically present, Melendrez was able to guide Olayo-Munoz through a phone call at 2:30 a.m. MT for a final review of the game plan before the bout.

Olayo-Munoz's mother, Crystal, was also present at the tournament, cheering her daughter on from the sidelines.

Thursday's victory has set Olayo-Munoz up for a championship match against Amelia Sula from Italy. Sula advanced to the championship by defeating Cinnia Hofmann from Germany. The 106-pound championship match is scheduled for Saturday.

Olayo-Munoz has been a consistent member of the USA Boxing Youth High Performance team for the past two years, steadily advancing in her boxing career. Her international debut and first tournament completion indicate she is beginning to establish herself on the global stage.
