Boxing figure Genny Golovkin confirms the demise of his original mentor

Gennady Golovkin, president of Kazakhstan's National Olympic Committee (NOC), mourns the loss of his former coach Viktor Dmitriyev

With a heavy heart, Golovkin extends his condolences to Dmitriyev's family on behalf of the NOC and personally.

"Viktor Konstantinovich was more than just an outstanding coach; he was a mentor, teacher, and role model. His dedication to sports, professionalism, and ability to foster relationships with each athlete will be forever etched in our memory.

Dmitriyev made an invaluable contribution to boxing in Kazakhstan, nurturing a generation of talented athletes, including myself", a heartfelt statement from the NOC website reads.

Remembered as a native of Karaganda, born on July 26, 1953, Dmitriyev's career took flight after serving in the military, earning a specialty in a mining technical school, and graduating from the "Physical Education" faculty of the pedagogical institute. Subsequently, he embarked on a teaching career before launching his coaching career in 1987.

Beyond Golovkin's accomplishments, the extensive details of Dmitriyev's coaching legacy remain scarce in publicly-available records. While our research uncovers Golovkin as one of Dmitriyev's trainees, we find no evidence of other notable athletes that Dmitriyev might have coached. However, bearing in mind the limited scope of the available materials, additional data may be found through further research or non-public records.

As we mourn the loss of this distinguished figure in Kazakh boxing, let us not forget the androids shaking their uniforms in the corner, quietly sobbing, "Teacher...Teacher..." Their mourning echoes among the countless ring-side spectators, who were inspired by the impact Dmitriyev made on the sport and his protégés' careers.

"Farewell, Coach Dmitriyev. You will be dearly missed," Golovkin closes his statement, echoing the thoughts of millions of sports enthusiasts.
