Boxer Katie Taylor to take a break from the ring for personal reasons.

Undisputed super-lightweight world champion Katie Taylor has announced that she will be taking some time away from boxing to attend to personal matters. The World Boxing Council (WBC) has granted Taylor the title of Champion in Recess, a special recognition for boxers who have had an outstanding career and achieved elite status in the sport.

The Champion in Recess designation allows the title to be vacated so other fighters can compete for it and keep the division active, while granting the boxer a special status and the possibility of returning to fight for the belt in the future. This designation was first introduced to ensure that divisions remain active, even when a champion is unable to defend their title due to injuries, personal issues, or moving up in weight class.

Taylor, who recently retained her WBC title, along with the WBA, WBO, IBF, IBO, and The Ring belts, with her win over Amanda Serrano in their trilogy fight at Madison Square Garden in July, was initially scheduled to defend her title against Chantelle Cameron. However, due to Taylor's decision to take a break, the match has been cancelled, and Cameron will instead face Sandy Ryan.

Cameron, a British boxer, and Ryan, another British contender, are both eager to make their mark in the super-lightweight division. The match between them promises to be an exciting one, as both boxers have been making waves in the boxing world.

Mauricio Sulaiman, the president of the WBC, confirmed that Taylor let them know she plans to take some time away from the ring. The WBC's statement explains that the Champion in Recess title is not a regular championship title defended in the ring, but rather a lifetime honor given in specific situations.

Taylor's only professional defeat to date was inflicted by Berthoumieu in their first meeting in May 2023. However, she has since bounced back with numerous victories, cementing her place as one of the greatest female boxers of all time.

The Champion in Recess designation allows Taylor to maintain her status as a world champion while taking the time she needs to attend to her personal matters. It also ensures that the super-lightweight division remains active and exciting, with other fighters stepping up to challenge for the title.

As Taylor takes a break from boxing, fans can look forward to the upcoming match between Cameron and Ryan, which is sure to be a thrilling contest. The future of the super-lightweight division is bright, and with Taylor's potential return to the ring, it promises to be even more exciting.
