Box Office Performance in India: 'Dhadak 2' Struggles Amidst Competition from 'Saiyaara'

Box Office Battle: Saiyaara, Dhadak 2, and Son of Sardaar 2

In the world of Bollywood, three films have been making waves at the box office recently – Saiyaara, Dhadak 2, and Son of Sardaar 2. Let's take a closer look at their performances.

After a 12-day run, Saiyaara, directed by Mohit Suri, has scored nearly $45 million, according to producers Yash Raj Films. This romantic saga, loosely based on the 2004 Korean film A Moment To Remember, is the second highest-grossing Hindi film of 2025, with a global gross collection of over $53 million. Saiyaara made a smashing opening of $2.5 million in India and $3 million worldwide, but interestingly, it opened in limited screens in India on July 18, with fewer screens than a usual big release.

Dhadak 2, a spiritual sequel to the previous Hindi film Dhadak, is co-written by Shazia Iqbal and Rahul Badwelkar and talks about the issue of caste and gender biases in Indian society. The film, a remake of the Malayalam film Pariyerum Perumal, similar to the first Dhadak which was a remake of the Marathi hit Sairaat, grossed nearly $1.6 million in India and $1.9 million globally in its first weekend, according to production house Dharma Productions. However, Dhadak 2 did not see much of an appreciation at the box office on its second day, making a two-day total of $1 million in India.

Son of Sardaar 2, directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, has mostly received bad reviews but has scored better than Dhadak 2 at the box office. The film tells the story of a Punjabi man who travels to England to meet his wife, but circumstances throw him out of balance. Son of Sardaar 2 crossed $3 million at the global box office in its first weekend and earned nearly $4 million in the first three days at the ticket windows. In its second week, Son of Sardaar 2 outperformed Dhadak 2, with better occupancy percentages and reportedly higher box office earnings.

As of early August 2025, the box office comparison among Saiyaara, Dhadak 2, and Son of Sardaar 2 shows:

  • Dhadak 2 earned approximately ₹19.01 crores India net in 10 days, with a total worldwide gross around ₹22.49 crores by day 9. Its opening week in India net was around ₹16.17 crores, with a slow decline in daily collections afterwards.
  • Son of Sardaar 2 outperformed Dhadak 2 in its second week, with better occupancy percentages and reportedly higher box office earnings. Exact total figures were not provided, but Son of Sardaar 2 had stronger footfall and earnings relative to Dhadak 2 at this stage.
  • Saiyaara is reported to have collected around ₹20.5 crores as of day 9, positioning it above Dhadak 2 in total box office collections at that point.

The arrival of major film releases like Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR’s movie on August 14, 2025, is expected to further impact these films’ box office trajectories.

In terms of acting, Dhadak 2 features brilliant performances by Vipin Sharma and Saurabh Sachdeva. However, the film often crumbles under the weight of its ambitions, with caste appearing to be a forced narrative instead of a tight slap of an experience. On the other hand, many scenes in Dhadak 2 are quite apt in portraying the trauma and bias that a major section of society faces due to caste-bias.

Meanwhile, the Punjabi film Chal Mere Putt 4 also made it to the top-scoring films in the US during the same period.

In summary, the available data suggests the ranking in box office performance (as of early August 2025) is:

  • Saiyaara (~₹20.5 cr)
  • Son of Sardaar 2 (higher occupancy, outperformed Dhadak 2)
  • Dhadak 2 (~₹19 cr with slower daily growth)

Movies-and-TV: In the current Bollywood scene, Saiyaara, Dhadak 2, and Son of Sardaar 2 are leading the entertainment industry, with their box office performances being closely monitored. As per latest India box office report, Saiyaara is seated above Dhadak 2 and Son of Sardaar 2 in terms of box office collections, making it the second highest-grossing Hindi film of 2025.

Entertainment: While Dhadak 2, co-written by Shazia Iqbal and Rahul Badwelkar, delves into the issue of caste and gender biases in Indian society, Son of Sardaar 2 offers a different narrative, they both are making an impact at the India box office report, but it's Saiyaara that soars high with a global gross collection of over $53 million.
