Box office earnings for War on the sixth day: A downturn in weekday viewings pushes Hrithik Roshan and Jr NTR's movie to 192 crore rupees
In the past week, the much-anticipated film War 2 has faced a setback at the box office, with weekday collections falling short of expectations. Despite a high-profile cast and the excitement surrounding the YRF Spy Universe, the film's underwhelming performance can be attributed to a less engaging story and production issues that have lowered audience retention [1][2][3].
Nationwide, War 2 recorded an overall occupancy rate of 16.74% on weekdays. Major cities like Mumbai, Pune, and Hyderabad had more modest figures, with 14.5%, 13%, and 10% occupancy, respectively [1]. The film's regional markets showed slightly better results, with Jaipur reporting the highest turnout at 32%, followed by Bengaluru with 27% and the National Capital Region (NCR) at 23.5% [1].
In the Telugu version, War 2's morning shows saw a turnout of 14.15%, rising slightly to 16.44% in the afternoon. The Tamil version followed similar trends, with 16.44% occupancy in the morning and 17.08% in the afternoon [1].
The Hindi version of War 2 also experienced a drop in occupancy rates, with morning shows averaging 11.71% and afternoon shows at 21.77% [1]. In the Telugu belt, the film had an overall occupancy of 15.30% [1].
War 2's weekday performance has been sluggish, with Chennai and Kolkata offering moderately better responses at 17.5% and 18.5% turnout, respectively. However, Ahmedabad and Surat had the lowest turnout at 9% and 6.5%, respectively [1].
Internationally, War 2 has earned ₹75 crore, falling short of previous films like Tiger Zinda Hai and Pathaan, reflecting overall dampened enthusiasm [3]. The film added ₹7.79 crore to its collection on Tuesday, bringing its total to approximately ₹192.29 crore [1]. Despite this, War 2 has yet to cross the ₹200 crore mark [1].
Looking ahead, the next instalment in the Spy Universe, Alpha, starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, is slated for release this December [1]. The film's success will be crucial in rejuvenating the franchise and restoring audience enthusiasm for the YRF Spy Universe.
