Legendary James Anderson Rears His Seam In Lancashire Return

Bowler James Anderson dismisses opening batsman with a delivery that swings away, three overs into his return to County Championship play.

James Anderson, the standout Test cricketer and England stalwart, made his much-anticipated Lancashire comeback with a bang, nailing two wickets against Derbyshire in a County Championship Division Two fixture. This sensational performance comes almost a year after his poignant Test retirement at the iconic Lord's.[1][2]

Anderson's Rollicking Return

On day two of the match, Anderson showcased his class by dismissing Caleb Jewell and David Lloyd. Anderson's first wicket was a masterful away-decker that pegged back Jewell's middle and off stump in his 18th delivery. Later, Lloyd fell victim to a catch off the wicketkeeper's gloves after facing several well-placed short-pitched balls.[3][5]

These two dismissals boosted Lancashire's advantage, with Derbyshire finishing the day on 112 for 4, lagging behind by 346 runs.[3]

The Road Ahead

Despite his retirement from international cricket, Anderson announced that he will carry on playing for Lancashire in the 2025 season. As the most successful seam bowler in Test history with 704 wickets,[5] Anderson's continued presence in the domestic game is warmly welcomed.

Although Lancashire currently finds itself rooted at the bottom of Division Two,[5] Anderson's return is hopeful for an upturn in their season. The team will look to him for guidance and expertise as they vie for a higher standing.
