Bowen Yang is leaving 'Saturday Night Live'
Bowen Yang will leave Saturday Night Live after this weekend’s Christmas episode. The actor and writer has spent seven years on the show, earning five Emmy nominations for his work. His final appearance will feature Ariana Grande as host and Cher as musical guest.
Yang first joined SNL in 2018 as a writer before becoming a full cast member the next year. Over time, he created memorable characters like Moo Deng the baby hippo and an impression of pop star Charli XCX. His contributions earned him five Primetime Emmy nominations, including four for outstanding supporting actor in a comedy series.
This season marks a shift for the show, with several cast members departing. Devon Walker, Ego Nwodim, Heidi Gardner, and Emil Wakim have all left ahead of the new episodes. Walker, in particular, is set to take over Yang’s role as the show moves into its 51st season. Yang’s final episode will air this weekend, hosted by Ariana Grande. The musical guest for the show is Cher, adding to the star-studded send-off.
Yang’s departure follows a long run on SNL, where he became one of the show’s most recognised performers. The Christmas episode will be his last, closing a chapter for both him and the programme. The series will continue with a reshaped cast in the new year.
