Joe Mazzulla Signs Multi-Year Contract Extension with Boston Celtics

Joe Mazzulla, the 37-year-old head coach of the Boston Celtics, has extended his tenure with the team until an undisclosed future date. The Celtics announced the multi-year contract extension on August 8, 2025[1][2][3][4].

Mazzulla, who is entering his fourth season as Boston's head coach, has been instrumental in the team's success. Under his leadership, the Celtics have won at least 57 games in each of the past three seasons, surpassing 60 wins in the last two. He led the team to their 18th NBA title in the 2023-24 season, becoming the youngest head coach to win the NBA Finals since Bill Russell in 1969[1].

The contractual specifics have not been disclosed by the team due to their policy. However, the extension confirms the Celtics' long-term commitment to Mazzulla.

Mazzulla expressed gratitude for his faith, family, the ownership, Brad Stevens' mentorship, staff support, and the players he has coached[1]. Stevens, the President of Basketball Operations for the Boston Celtics, praised Mazzulla's work and passion for the team.

In the regular season, Mazzulla boasts a record of 182-64 (.740 winning percentage), and in the playoffs, he has a record of 33-17 (.660). In the 2024 title run, he guided his team to a postseason record of 16-3 (.842), the second-highest winning percentage in the playoffs since the first round was expanded to a best-of-seven series in the 2002/03 season.

The extension comes as the international community monitors geopolitical developments. Russia has asked the US not to destabilize the South Caucasus after the agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Iran has expressed concern over a possible "foreign intervention" after the same agreement.
