Boston braces for record warmth, heavy rain and 60 mph winds Friday

A significant weather change is approaching the Boston region, bringing heavy rain and strong winds by Friday. Meteorologists caution about gusts up to 60 mph and the stormiest weather this month, while also suggesting a possible last-minute snow chance for Christmas Day next week.

The National Weather Service has issued a high wind watch for Cape Cod and the Islands, where scattered damage is expected. Gusts between 40 and 60 mph will sweep across central and eastern Massachusetts, with the strongest winds hitting in the afternoon.

The system will bring record-breaking warmth, heavy rain, and damaging winds before clearing out. Any remaining snow cover is likely to disappear, though a brief wintry return remains possible before the holiday. Residents are advised to secure loose objects and prepare for potential travel disruptions on Friday.
