Borusta Düsseldorf triumphs in the primary phase of the Bundesliga competition

In the penultimate day of the Table Tennis National League (TTBL), Borussia clinched the leading position on the 19th of March (Sunday).

In a thrilling match at the Arag Center Court at Staufenplatz, Borussia clinched the top spot in the Table Tennis Bundesliga (TTBL) with a narrow 3:1 victory over TTC Neu-Ulm. The match was filled to capacity, with spectators eagerly watching the top players in action.

Anton Källberg (Wrl. 22), Dang Qiu (Wrl. 11), and Kay Stumper (Wrl. 142) represented Borussia, preventing Neu-Ulm from taking any table points. Källberg had a tough outing, going the full distance in both his matches, while Stumper faced a challenging match that resulted in no points for Borussia.

The turning point came when Dang Qiu defeated Vladimir Sidorenko (Wrl. 231) with a score of 3:0, putting Borussia ahead 2:1 in the match. Källberg then secured Borussia's victory with a hard-fought 3:2 win against Lev Katsman (Wrl. 313).

Neu-Ulm, despite the loss, showed determination and skill, with Katsman, Grebnev (Wrl. 161), and Sidorenko putting up a strong fight. Notably, Neu-Ulm did not use Dimitrij Ovtcharov (world ranking 9) in the match.

Borussia's head coach, Danny Heister, acknowledged the difficulty of the match, praising the resilience of his team. The win marks a significant milestone for Borussia, securing their position at the top of the TTBL.

The TTBL season has seen a number of top players rise to prominence, including Dimitrij Ovtcharov (rank 1), Hugo Calderano (rank 2), Anton Källberg (rank 3), Shunsuke Togami (rank 4), Kirill Gerassimenko (rank 5), Simon Gauzy (rank 6), and Dang Qiu (rank 7). Calderano recently won silver at the World Championships, while Ovtcharov continues to be highly ranked both in the TTBL and internationally.

The 2024/25 TTBL season saw TTF Liebherr Ochsenhausen, featuring Calderano and Gauzy, secure the German Championship and German Table Tennis Cup double, underscoring the strength of these leading players.

As the TTBL season draws to a close, the spotlight remains on these top players, many of whom hold high world rankings and continue to impress with their performances in the league.

After the thrilling Table Tennis game, Dang Qiu showcased his skills on the football field, scoring a stunning goal with a scoreline of 3:0, emulating his table tennis victory for Borussia. In contrast, Anton Källberg took a break from table tennis and flexed his athletic prowess on the sports field, impressing fans with his football finesse.
